Real Wedding: Ashridge House: A Blossoming Romance

I adored working with Catherine and Becker on their incredible Wedding Day at Ashridge House last October! It was filled with so many incredible sentimental moments and traditions that left their guests in awe of how special their love for one another is.

Authors Bio: Vivienne May Weddings was founded and created by Kerrie May. With over 8 years of experience in the luxury wedding & event industry, Kerrie has worked at some of the UK’s most iconic venues alongside a selection of renowned industry professionals and worked with a selection of high-net worth couples.

Kerrie is a UK Wedding Planner and has a distinctive reputation amongst her fellow luxury wedding professionals. Her wealth of experience, industry knowledge and unrivalled passion for bringing her clients vision to life is what drives her to plan impeccably designed, style-led and perfectly co-ordinated weddings, with romance at it’s heart.

Their love story began as friends at 17, but destiny had other plans! After 7 years apart, they reconnected on social media and their friendship blossomed into a beautiful romance.

They share a love of movies and so the invitations were created by Designed by Libby to look like Cinema tickets (and finished in a stunning red foil as a nod to Catherine’s Chinese heritage).

There were so many unique details created by the couple ahead of the day including the place name cards which the Bride handmade for guests to take home as a keepsake of their incredible day (and so many guests commented on how beautiful they were!)

The morning of the Wedding included Traditional Chinese Door Games (to help determine many aspects of the couple’s future: luck, children and more!) During these, the Groom and his Groomsmen had to complete games and challenges set by the Bridesmaids in order to ‘win over’ the Bride. This part of the day was filled with so much laughter as the Bride watched it via livestream from her suite!

After the Games, the couple commenced their Chinese Tea Ceremony where the Bride and Groom served tea to their parents, in-laws, and other family members. Both of the couple wore beautiful robes with delicate Chinese embroidery details whilst performing the symbolic ceremony wherein they show respect to their families, and they in turn, show their acceptance of the marriage, usually by giving gifts in return.

The couple then both changed into their formal Wedding attire as they prepared for a

breath-taking Wedding Ceremony on the iconic staircase at Ashridge House. Decorated in an abundance of pale pink, lilac and blue flowers by Augusta Florals, Tamryn from Wild & Oak then performed a personalised and memorable ceremony for the couple and their closest family and friends.

The couple then surprised guests with two Chinese Lion Dancers in the decadent, regal Lady Marion Alford Room at Ashridge House as the Drinks Reception commenced.

The Repton Hall was all set for the Wedding Breakfast, complete with pale pink blossom tree centrepieces (a nod to the Brides heritage) and the pale pink, lilac and blue colour palette continued throughout. The Hall was lit perfectly by The London Function Bands Team and really added ambience to the wedding breakfast (lighting is a must for really setting the scene and transforming wedding venues!)

Then after the speeches, it was onto the Cake Cutting! Arabic Drummers surprised the guests and led them to the main staircase where the couple appeared back down the staircase as if by magic! Then it was time for the couple and the Drummers to lead guests outside to another surprise… Fireworks!

The Drummers then had one final performance as they led the guests to the dancefloor in the Wyatt Room where the incredible London Function Band took the stage to perform the couples first dance. (The London Function Band really know how to get a party started and the dancefloor remained full all night!)

The couple ended the magical day in private as they headed to The Library for a private last dance of the evening (a lovely way to end such a perfect day!)
